What to Expect
We get it. Visiting a new church can be hard.
To relieve some of that stress, here’s some of what you can expect when you visit Resurrection.
Our worship is Jesus-centered.
Everything in our service — from the aesthetics to the dress of our pastors — is meant to draw us toward Christ. You’ll see annotated notes in our worship bulletin that explain elements of the service, pointing out how what we see, say, and do can help us encounter Jesus together.
We take Jesus seriously. Ourselves? Not so much.
Our worship is liturgical, but it’s not stuffy. We’re regular people — adults and kids — gathering to set our hope on the Triune God. Our vibe is joyfully reverent without being unnecessarily somber. We think church should be reverent and fun — in the holiest and happiest sense.
Our worship is participatory.
Liturgical worship is about “the work of the people.” Our worship service is less a performance of a few charismatic folks and more a participatory act of the whole community. That means your voice and presence truly matters. You’ll be invited to participate by saying the bolded words of the bulletin. And you’ll be invited to sit, stand, and kneel as you’re able since we are embodied creatures and our worship reflects that reality. But there’s no pressure. Engage as you feel comfortable.
If Anglican worship is new to you, don’t stress. Everything you need to know about the order of service is printed in your bulletin. You won’t be singled out or called on to do anything during the worship service.
We partake of communion every Sunday.
You don’t have to be Anglican or a member of Resurrection to receive communion. All baptized Christians are invited to receive holy communion at the appointed time during the service. If you’re not a baptized Christian or if you choose not receive communion, we still invite you to come forward with everyone else so as to receive a brief blessing. To receive a blessing rather than communion, cross your forearms over your chest in an X pattern. You can also stay seated in your pew during communion, and no one will think it the least bit odd.
Children are vital to our worship — and they are free to be kids
Children are big part of Resurrection, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Most Sundays from September to June, we offer children’s nursery (6 months to 2 years) and children’s chapel (ages 2 through 3rd grade) during a portion of the service. These children return to the service to participate in communion. Some kids stay in service with the families, wiggling and participating as they are able. To us, the sound and presence of children at church is a tangible sign of the kingdom.
